Illuminating Bed Time

Share

For adults, bedtime is one of the most precious things we look forward to in our day. However, the same cannot be said for children, as bedtime can often be quite scary. The thought of being alone in the dark and getting a good night’s rest doesn’t have the same appeal to children as it does for adults.

Despite this, a good night’s sleep is critical for our well being. Sleep promotes growth in children and helps keep your heart and mind healthy. Not only will your child have an increased attention span and be more pleasant to be around, they might also come home with better grades, have a healthier heart, and grow into a healthy young adult. For parents, getting your children to get to bed can often be a difficult task. But remember, it doesn’t need to be. Here are four easy ways to help make bedtime more comfortable for you and your little ones!

Nightlights! For younger children, heading to bed can be intimidating and nerve-racking. For parents, if you find yourself checking underneath the bed for monsters on a nightly basis, consider adding a nightlight to your child’s bedroom.

Having that little bit of brightness in the room can help your child feel at ease. The Trolls Projector Light is a fun way to add a dash of imagination and inspiration before bed. Once you crawl into bed and get comfortable, turn out the lights and flip on one of the three projected Trolls images on to your wall or ceiling!

Routine! For some children, following a routine is the easiest way for them to fall asleep comfortably. Whether your routine includes having dinner every night at the same time, or a bath at an expected point every evening, keeping a routinely schedule will help make the process of getting into bed every night much easier for children.

When children get used to a routine, they become aware of what is expected, which makes going to bed much less of a hassle.

Comforting objects! Having a comforting item such as your favorite teddy bear or blanky (don’t you miss your own childhood blanky?) will help take the stress off those children who struggle being alone at night. Although it may not seem like a big deal, having an item that you can hold on to and squeeze can make a child feel a sense of comfort and take away any feeling of loneliness, and also keeps them from climbing into your bed every night instead of staying in their own.

Story Time! What better way for children and their parents to connect than over a classic bedtime adventure. When reading to your children before bed, they’re experiencing an adventure, which will not only help spark the child’s imagination, but remove any negative thoughts before bed. And who’s to say that only the child benefits from story time? As parents, spending time with your children is precious, and reading to your children will not only keep them relaxed, but it can relax you as well. As the reader, you are also becoming distracted by the soothing bedtime story, which can help ease with the stresses of your day too!

As parents, you want your children to feel confident and relaxed before bed. There are clearly many positive effects of having a solid night’s sleep, for both adults and children. In order for parents to get those ever so needed restful nights, priority number one is to make sure the kids have a relaxing night too.

If your children aren’t comfortable before bed, odds are you won’t be either. Give your kids the tools to help them relax before bed and help create a restful environment. Not only will your children benefit, you’ll be able to catch up on those zzz’s that you often miss out on, and as you know already, sleep is a precious, precious gift. Life can be stressful, but falling asleep shouldn’t be.
